monday musing ~ let’s start the year right by letting go…

“May we make this year more meaningful by avoiding these common self-sabotaging mistakes. They already belong to the past.”

New Year is all about starting anew, starting fresh. It’s about un-cluttering our lives leaving behind old and passé stuffs that don’t serve us anymore. Those things we tried and tried but didn’t work. This is to make way to a better life, a better you. To help you gain a new and brighter perspective this 2015, here are some of the old habits we should all let go and stop doing to ourselves starting now.

“Do not doubt the goodness in you. It’s inappropriate.”  ~ Dodinsky

Of all people, you, first and foremost, should recognize that goodness inside you struggling to get out. Stop hiding it. Stop suppressing it. Instead, try acknowledging it. For when this goodness is acknowledged, it can be shared to the world. This year, let us stop doubting our own goodness. Believe in it and do wonders with it. Do not deny the world of such goodness—your goodness.

“You are worthy. Do not think otherwise.”  ~ Anonymous

As every one of us has our own goodness, we are all worthy and as important as anyone can be. It is saddening that most of the times we tend to forget this fact. We listen to other people telling us we’re not. And, frighteningly, we believe them. Until we accept their opinion of us to be our reality. Please do not let this happen, or if it is already happening, have the courage to change it. As the year starts, let’s start finding our worth, the real one. Or maybe we just have to remember…

“Do not allow anyone to steal your joy.”

We are all responsible for our own happiness. We work hard for it, fight for it and even trick ourselves for it at times. So, never ever let someone take it away from you. Do not let some dim-witted remarks dampen your brightest of moods. Do not allow ill-intended and unsolicited opinions darken your sparkle. Do not give these small dosages of negativity power to control you and your happiness. You make your own sunshine. And keep it ablaze.

“Comparison is an act of violence against the self.”  ~ Iyanla Vanzant

Do not compare. It is an ultimate violation of your authentic self to make comparisons with other people. You are unique. You are special. Respect your own individuality. Embrace it wholeheartedly. Without realizing it, you tend to ignore this uniqueness while ranting over other people’s uniqueness. This year, let us not forget that we are all different in some ways and that it is okay to be so.

“Sometimes a majority simply means that all the fools are on the same side.”  ~ Claude McDonald

Do not conform. Accepting our individuality doesn’t only mean not letting anybody to step on it. It also means not allowing ourselves to change it, modify it, or even conceal it just to fit in. You are you because of it. Do not lose yourself trying to hide it by following the crowd. This year, let your beautiful self shine by following your own unique path.

“If you don’t like something, change it. if you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.”  ~ Maya Angelou

Do not complain. Well, I think a lot of us fall prey to this kind of guilt. Or maybe not. Sometimes we commonly commit such mistakes unaware. It is so easy to complain. We do it all the time without even knowing we’re doing it. To make excuses. To procrastinate and delay something inevitable. Let’s start this year right by being mindful of our thoughts, intentions and actions. Stop complaining about unwanted situations and do something about it. It wouldn’t hurt to take advice from someone like Maya Angelou, right?

So here’s to a better and brighter year ahead of us. May we make this year more meaningful by avoiding these common self-sabotaging mistakes. They already belong to the past.
