Yes, life goes on. It won’t stop and wait up until we figure everything out. Life goes on even if we refuse to wake up to a new day, dress up and show up. Life goes on even if our sky is falling, our world is ending and no one bothers. Life goes on even if we decide to stop living and breathing and participating and communicating. It continues on even if we get stuck in the moment or choose to stay stranded inside our cave of isolation. It moves forward even as we wrap ourselves with veils of oblivion and blankets of loneliness trying not to care. It keeps its pace even as we prefer to sit and delight in our solitary confinement struggling to convince ourselves that we have nothing to do with what’s going on beyond those walls. Hiatus, hibernation, break or whatever you call it, it won’t stop the world from revolving, it won’t suspend time. It will only leave you there, behind, cut off from the rest of the currently moving world.
So take a pause. Do what you have to do. Mourn. Rest. Break down. Surrender. Cave in. Fall apart. Collapse. But always, always, get back up. Get up from where you stumble. Lick your own wound. Heal. Come back. Stand up. Keep going. Because life goes on.
